What We're Reading Now!

Some of my favorite time with Ty is spent with him curled up in my lap while we read together. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the picture books much. (Especially after reading the same one every night for 3 weeks in a row.)

I solved this dilemma by introducing him to some of my favorite childhood (young reader) books. Now every evening, after his bath and right before bed, we read one chapter. He loves it. This one activity has transformed my evenings from a tug-of-war getting ready for bed to an enjoyable experience. Ty almost runs to the shower now, and starts wondering aloud what will happen next.

What We're Reading Now:

Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets

Well, we are definitely all about Harry Potter now.  Ty and I both are in love with these characters.  He now wants a Harry Potter Bedroom, he wants to be Harry Potter for Halloween and he wants a Harry Potter Birthday Party in February.  And you know what?  I'm so pumped about these books, that I'm all for it!!

Synopsis from the Back Cover:

What We Just Finished Reading:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Ty actually requested that we read Harry Potter next, so here we go!
Initially, I was concerned because the chapters in this book appear to be a little longer than the others I've been used to. I was afraid that the added length may make it more difficult to keep my 5yo's attention and harder for me to enthusiastically read it aloud. (Let's face it, reading aloud is difficult after so long.) To my delighted surprise that has not been the case. As of right now we are about 10 chapters in, and Ty is totally hooked.  The story is so fast paced and entertaining that it EASILY holds his attention and it very easy to read it animatedly. We are having soooo much fun with this one!

The Chronicles of Narnia
The Last Battle

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis is a series of seven books centered mostly around the tales and adventures of four London schoolchildren, who magically appear in this other world of Narnia.   This world is full of talking animals, giants, and many other mythical creatures. The children are summoned by The Great Lion, who is also the creator of Narnia, to fight good against evil.  The Last Battle is (obviously) the final book in the series. It is an apocalyptic climax of the ending of Narnia.

We have enjoyed these books so much. I have discovered that Ty has inherited my ability to submerge himself into a fantasy world.  Its not just that he is constantly pretending to be King Peter and play fighting the White Witch. Its how while driving down the road I will catch him staring out the window.  When I ask him, "Whats up?" He will reply with something like "Oh, I was just remembering how Lucy had to stop Peter and Caspian from fighting. When they first met. Do you remember that Mom?"

READ TOGETHER. Trust Me, Its time well spent.
